Teachers, now it’s time to let the pupils have a go themselves. On the screen or board, you’ll find two more Solve It Sideways challenges. These are perfect for a short partner or trio discussion.
You can read one out, give a little thinking time, and then invite a few volunteers to share their ideas.
Remember — there are no wrong answers, just clever thinking and initiative in action.
Challenge 1: You’ve forgotten your pencil. What could you do that isn’t just borrowing one?
Challenge 2: Your two best friends have fallen out and now they aren’t speaking. You’re stuck in the middle. What could you do to help without taking sides?
Teachers, feel free to add your own twists — or even ask the class to come up with their own sideways problems!
