Schools play an important role in helping children develop far more than subject knowledge. Every day, pupils are learning the skills that help them communicate, solve problems, work with others, think creatively and face challenges with confidence. These transferable skills shape how children learn, build relationships and respond to the opportunities and challenges they encounter every day.
Skills are not developed by simply learning about them. They grow through experience, reflection and opportunities to use them every day.
Skills for Learning, Life and Work is a ready-to-use assembly programme designed to bring these essential skills to life. Across twelve engaging filmed assemblies, pupils discover each skill through fascinating stories drawn from science, psychology, nature and the real world, combined with practical activities, humour and meaningful discussion.
Designed for primary schools, the programme is fully filmed and simple to deliver. Staff can press play, facilitate discussion and create meaningful opportunities for whole-school reflection without extensive preparation.
Built around the twelve Meta-Skills identified by Skills Development Scotland, the programme provides a practical and engaging way to develop transferable skills that are recognised and valued across education throughout the UK.
These assemblies are designed to spark conversations, strengthen relationships and help these essential skills move beyond the assembly hall into classrooms, playgrounds, homes and everyday life.
