Approaching Franchisors for an Initial Chat

thosewhocan logothosewhocan·Published 27 October 2026

An initial enquiry is not a promise to buy a franchise. It is simply an opportunity for you and the franchisor to decide whether further conversations would be useful.

What to Share When You Enquire

To make the most of this first conversation, be ready to share the following:

  • Your teaching background – Your experience, specialisms, and what you bring to the table.
  • What interests you about the business – Why this franchise caught your attention.
  • Whether you are still teaching – Your current professional status.
  • The type of transition you are considering – Full-time, part-time, or phased.
  • Your approximate timeframe – When you hope to make a decision or start.
  • The questions that matter most to you – What you need to know to move forward.

Five Useful Questions for the First Conversation

Use these questions to guide your discussion and assess whether the franchise is a good fit for you:

  1. What would you expect me to focus on during my first six months? Understand the priorities and challenges of the early stages.

  2. Can this realistically begin alongside my current teaching role? Clarify whether a phased transition is possible.

  3. What do successful franchisees do particularly well? Identify the skills and traits that lead to success in this business.

  4. Can I speak to a franchisee with a similar background? Gain insights from someone who has made a similar transition.

  5. What would happen after this initial conversation? Know the next steps and whether further discussions are warranted.

Use this as a starting point to ensure your first chat is productive and informative.
