And STRETCH!
Now it’s time to identify the skills and behaviours that reside out side your comfort zone.
Using your previous drawing, add another bubble that surrounds your comfort zone but make it a bit bigger than your comfort zone. This represents your stretch zone.
Write down all the skills and behaviours you would like to develop that are a little bit beyond your comfort zone just now. It might be presentation skills, leadership skills or developing a particular teaching style, approach or pedagogy.
Now consider the opportunities you have to develop these skills. For example if you want to develop your presentation skills maybe put yourself forward to deliver something at the next inservice day or staff meeting, if you want to develop your leadership skills look for some leadership opportunities with your school and pursue them.
Use this to help you form an action plan of how to step beyond your comfort zone. As well as thinking about what you want to do, also consider why you want to do it, how you plan to do it.
Set yourself some realistic goals with a timeline and take a deep breath and push yourself out of that comfort zone!
