We bet you have AMZING DREAMS for the future. Let’s explore them!
Either as a class discussion or in small groups ask the children to consider the following;
What would your dream job be when you grow up?
Share lots of examples with the class to really get their creative juices going.
Choose one to explore together. What would you need to do throughout your time at school to be able to do that thing? For example, if someone says they would like to be a Space Explorer, what subjects do they think they would the have to study at school? What would they have to do after school? What would the need to practice?
Once you have explored a few, see if the children can map out their own journey to their dream. You can be as creative as you like with this… maybe you would like to make a step by step guide, or draw a picture or you might just want to make a list.
Once the children have started thinking about their path ask them to consider the following:
What do you think you can start doing now to help make your dream a reality in the future?
Use this as a discussion point to identify the skills that the children can be learning now that will help them in the future.
Are any of the skills the same for different dreams?
Yes?
These are called transferable skills. That means that they are skills you use in lots of different situations.
Can you think of all the different jobs where you use the following skills?
Listening
Talking
Paying Attention
Focus
Teamwork
Can you think of any more transferable skills?
