Once upon a time there was a curious girl called Mae who could not make up her mind about what she wanted to do when she grew up.
She wanted to be a fashion designer.
NO!
An engineer.
NO!
A Dancer.
NO!
An astronaut!
To Mae the world was a laboratory and she had lots of experiments she wanted to conduct. When she grew up she studied chemical engineering, African- American Studies and medicine. She learnt to speak Russian, Swahili and Japanese. She became a doctor and volunteered in Cambodia and Sierra Leone.
Then she applied to NASA to become an astronaut.
She was selected after one years training and she was sent into space on board the space shuttle. She was the first African-American women to go to space. She believed that she could aim for the stars and drift between all of her dreams.
