In the last video, we talked about how to counteract the stress we encounter in our days with the great antidote of “de-stress”.
However, there is another way that we can help relieve ourselves of stress: re-framing.
If we think of destressing as removing the stress bricks from our bag once they’ve built up, then re-framing is like preventing the bricks from being put in the bag in the first place.
To reframe a situation we need to ask ourselves if there is another way to look at it, and if there is any benefit that we will take from it. For example, let’s imagine that someone was beginning to feel stressed out by a piece of homework that they were finding difficult and had been putting off for ages as a result.
Rather than letting the homework sit there and weigh down on them in the background, causing them to feel lazy and frustrated, they might choose to reframe it. They might choose to think about how this piece of homework, despite being difficult and boring, is actually a great test for them – a way to test themselves and find out what they do and don’t know. They could use this homework as an honest indicator of what level they are at, and then off the back of their results start working on plugging the gaps in their knowledge and pushing forward.
