Sometimes the only person holding you back is YOU.
We often think we’re not good enough to accomplish certain things. We think that other people are better, and that we just don’t have what it takes. But having these thoughts in the first place can often be the reason that we’re not experiencing success.
Just by thinking certain things, we can make them happen. For example, imagine for a second that there’s a toaster sitting across the room from you with some bread being toasted inside it. Imagine that the bread has been in there for a while and the it’s starting to burn. Imagine the smell of burnt toast becoming stronger and stronger. Imagine sniffing in that smell right now.
And it works!
You get a sense of smelling burnt toast, even though there’s none there! (If there is actually some toast there then that’s cheating but at least you get to eat some toast now.)
Just like our brain creates the smell of burnt toast, our brains can make tasks more difficult for us if we spend a lot of our time thinking about how much we’re going to struggle and dwelling on how difficult it will be. Our negative thoughts actually hold us back.
Luckily, there’s a solution. Be more positive. Simply adding in more positive thoughts and filling your mind with self-belief will lead to you approaching homework, schoolwork, sports, and just life in general with more enthusiasm and ultimately getting more success.
