Pirate Pete is a bit of a scallywag.
He is always off on adventures and getting up to mischief. He likes to sail the seven seas and chase his parrot around the ship. He tries his best to avoid doing the jobs that the other pirates ask him to…like scrubbing the deck or washing the barnacles off the pirate ship. His favourite thing to do though, is search for buried treasure. Every time the pirates find a desert island they hop off the ship with their spades under one arm and their treasure maps under the other, and off they go in search of gold and jewels. It’s very exciting!
The thing is, there aren’t that many desert islands and so all the pirates have found is a smelly old boot and a lot of driftwood.
This doesn’t stop Pirate Pete from imagining what the next island might be like though. He likes to lie back in his hammock, take a few deep breaths and imagine what it will be like the next time they wash up on a desert island… shall we give it a go?
[Ask the class to find a comfortable space and lie down then read the following slowly]
Pirate Pete starts with a big stretch, he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath in, he holds it for a few seconds then he lets it go. Why don’t you give it a try.
Take a deep breath, hold it for a few seconds then let it go…
Gently close your eyes.
Now use your imagination to imagine you have just washed up on a desert island. As you take a deep breath in, look around and see what you can see.
Notice the noise of waves gently lapping on the sand.
Can you hear them?
Can you hear the rustle of the wind in palms trees?
Feel the warmth of the sand beneath you and the sun shining down warming your face.
See the birds flying around overhead. Notice their bright feathers and the flap of their wings.
Notice how calm and relaxed you feel.
Take another deep breath in, and as you breath out, open your eyes and have the biggest pirate-y-ist stretch you can.
AHHHHAAARRRRR me Hearties!
