Happiness…
Happiness means different things to different people. When the term happiness is used in the context of mental or emotional states however, it tends to include positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy.
It can relate to life satisfaction, subjective wellbeing, eudaimonia and flourishing. Positive emotions are key to promoting flourishing. That is not to say that negative emotions aren’t important, infact research suggests that the experience of the full spectrum of emotions both positive and negative is what allows us to experience and appreciate the good times in full colour.
If we only give time to certain emotions, it’s a little like painting with only primary colours, you can easily miss the nuances, the tone, the shade, the light. That’s why emotionally intelligent, emotionally literate people allow themselves to feel and experience their feelings.
It’s healthy!
