When we flip our lid, it can sometimes feel like it happened in an instant.
But most of the time, our brain has been trying to warn us for a little while first.
Perhaps your heart starts beating faster.
Maybe your face feels hot.
Perhaps your fists clench, your shoulders feel tight or your voice gets louder.
Maybe little things that normally wouldn't bother you suddenly become really annoying.
These are all clues that your emotional brain is starting to take over and your upstairs brain is finding it harder to stay in control.
The sooner we notice these warning signs, the sooner we can do something to help ourselves calm down before we flip our lid.
